A Study of Clinical Application of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery in Korea

Abstract
In spite of the theoretical importance and clinical usefulness, LNNB has not been utilized broadly in Korea. The present study was carried out as a preliminary investigation forstandardization of a Korean version of the LNNB, analyzing its potentiality and difficulties in applying to Korean clinical setting. The experimental group consisted of 14 male] and 6 female brain damaged patients diagnosed by neurologists and neurosurgeons. Elec. troencephalography, computer tomography and other available neurological tests were applied tf as diagnostic tools. Mean duration of illness was 34.83 months. The 20 normal controls were duely controlled in sex, age, educational level and hand-dominance.
The battery was administered by three well trained clinical psychologists. The inter. rater reliability was .94 and the split-half reliability ranged from .85 to . 96, which suggested high internal consistency of the scales.
The result of this study was as follows: ** each summary scale indices and total LNNB M¢¥ score showed significant difference, at the level of p <. 01, between the two groups. In respect to the discriminative power of each item, the performance ¢¥Lof 249 items differed significantly, at the level of p <. 05 or better.
However, the problem of linguistic and cultural differences in translating the items into Korean language remains to be solved.
The battery¢¥s potentiality and further research necessary for standardizing Korean version of the LNNB was discussed.
